If you want to get over addictive drugs then you need to take real action in your life. Most people believe that quitting drugs or alcohol is only a medium sized lifestyle change that will not really affect their entire life. This is obviously wrong and these people are underestimating the degree of change that is necessary to stay clean and sober. Everyone does this at first because we have had several experiences throughout our lives where we could make modest changes in our lives by putting forth a modest effort. This does not work in recovery and if you just put forth a modest effort then you will go back to using drugs your life will not change at all. In order to create a new life for yourself you have to put forth a tremendous effort and really make some huge changes.

One way to go about doing this is to make structural changes in your life. For example, if were to move into a long term treatment center, that is a structural change that can set you up for success if you are serious about recovery. It is structural because it will lay out a whole foundation for recovery and get you involved with therapy and recovery on a day to day basis. If you just decide to quit doing drugs and maybe go see a therapist once a month then you have not really changed anything yet and you have not changed the structure of your life. In order to create big changes you are going to have to dig a bit deeper than that.
